Easy Baked Flan

Ingredients

Custard

• 4 whole eggs
• 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
• 1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
• 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Caramel

• ¾ cup granulated sugar
• ¼ cup water

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F
2. In a blender, combine eggs, evaporated milk, condensed milk, and vanilla extract. Blend for 1 minute or until everything is well combined.
3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Cook for about 5 to 6 minutes or until the caramel turns a golden brown or deep amber color. *
4. Quickly remove from heat and pour caramel into your pan. Lift and tilt the pan to coat both the bottom and sides with the caramel.
5. Be careful; the pan might be hot.
6. Pour the custard mixture into the pan and cover it tightly with foil.
7. Place the pan in a larger baking dish and pour enough boiling water to cover the pan halfway.
8. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until a knife inserted in the middle of the flan comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let the flan cool completely. Refrigerate for about 2 hours.
9. When ready to serve, run a paring knife along the sides of the pan to loosen the flan. Invert the flan over onto a plate. Gently tap the pan if needed for easy release. Slice, serve, and enjoy!

Notes:

• When making the caramel you can swirl the pan but never stir, it will cause your caramel to crystallize.
• You can serve the flan after it has cooled entirely at room temperature, but I prefer to place it in the refrigerator once it has cooled for one or two hours to make sure it will not fall apart once I'm ready to invert it.
