Pure, homemade extracts that are easy to make!

Bourbon Vanilla Extract
  • 4 oz bourbon
  • 2 vanilla beans
Orange Extract
  • 4 oz vodka
  • Rinds of one navel orange, peeled into strips
Lemon Extract
  • 4 oz vodka
  • Rinds of two lemons, peeled into strips
Coffee Extract
  • 4 oz vodka
  • 1/4 cup coffee beans
Mint Extract
  • 4 oz vodka
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves

  1. To make the VANILLA extract: Split open the vanilla bean pod lengthwise to expose the vanilla seeds, then cut in half crosswise.
  2. Place vanilla beans inside your glass bottle or mason jar. Pour bourbon into the bottle to fill.
  3. To make the LEMON and ORANGE extracts: Peel thin strips of zest from one orange and two lemons.
  4. Place lemon zest into one bottle and the orange zest into another bottle. Pour vodka into both bottles to fill.
  5. To make the MINT extract: Stuff the mint leaves into the glass bottle. Pour vodka into the bottle to fill.
  6. To make the COFFEE extract: Place coffee beans into the bottle. Pour vodka into the bottle to fill.

You can replace the vodka or bourbon with any alcohol of your choice. Just make sure the alcohol you use is at least 80 proof. Let the extracts sit for a minimum of 5 to 6 weeks, giving the bottle a gentle shake every couple of days. Be sure to store them in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. The extracts will be ready for use after 6 weeks. If you'd like, you can strain the ingredients from the extract bottles. Extracts stay good for at least several years.
