This classic chili recipe is the best you will ever have! It's thick, delicious, and oh so flavorful. It's filled with kidney beans, ground beef, diced tomatoes, the right mix of spices, and the perfect amount of heat.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • salt to taste
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water
Optional Toppings
  • Sour cream
  • Shredded cheese
  • Cilantro
  • Crushed chips

Instructions

  1. In a large pot over medium-high heat, add olive oil, and cook the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until meat is brown and cook through.
  2. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Season it with salt and cook until the bell pepper is tender and onion translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add tomato paste and chili seasoning, give it a stir and cook for about a minute. Add kidney beans, diced tomatoes, beef broth, and give it a last stir. Bring the heat down to medium-low and cook covered for 1 1/2 hours.
  4. Make the cornstarch slurpee by combining water and cornstarch. Add it to the chili and cook uncovered for 30 minutes or until the chili's consistency is to your liking.
  5. Remove from the heat and serve with your favorite toppings!

 Notes

  1. If the chili thickens too much, add more broth as needed.
