Empanadas de Carne (Beef Turnovers)

Empanadas or beef turnovers are delicious pastries packed with picadillo. They are fried to a crispy perfection and enjoyed hot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Ingredients

• 1 1/2 cup picadillo
• 1 pack (10) empanada dough (store-bought) *
• water
• oil, for frying

Instructions

1. Make picadillo according to the recipe instructions.
2. While the picadillo cooks, thaw the empanada dough according to the package's instructions.
3. Moisten the edge of the dough with water. Spoon about 1 to 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture into the middle of the dough. Fold in half to form a half-moon and use a fork to seal.
4. FRYING INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until the temperature has reached 375 degrees F. Cook empanadas in batches until crisp and golden brown, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
5. AIR-FRYING INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees F. Fill the empanadas according to the prior instructions. Spray or brush the empanadas with a bit of oil. Place empanadas in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 5 minutes on each side.
6. OVEN INSTRUCTIONS: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Follow the previous filling instructions. Brush the empanadas with oil and arrange them on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, flipping halfway.
7. ENJOY!

Notes:

1. I use Goya empanada dough (dough for turnover pastries). They have two sizes; I use the smaller size. You can find this dough in the Hispanic frozen section of your supermarket.
