Turkey Chili Recipe

Turkey Sweet Potato Chili

Turkey chili is a lighter and healthier chili. Packed with great flavor and very easy to make!

Ingredients

• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 lb. ground turkey
• 1 small onion, chopped
• 1 red pepper, chopped
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 tablespoon chili powder
• 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
• 1 teaspoon dried oregano
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
• 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
• 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• salt and pepper, to taste
• 1 (14.5oz) can diced tomatoes
• 3 1/2 - 4 cups chicken broth or water
  
• 1 can red beans, drained
• 1 cup corn kernels (frozen, can or fresh)
  
• 2 small sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
• 1 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water

Optinal Topping

• Sour cream
• Cheddar Cheese
• Cilantro
• Tortilla chips
• Avocado
  

Instructions

1. Heat the oil over medium-high heat in a pot and add the ground turkey. Cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Season with half the spice mix, salt, and pepper.
2. Add the onion, pepper, garlic and cook for 5 minutes. Add the diced tomatoes, corn, beans, diced sweet potatoes, chicken broth, and rest of the seanonig mix. Mix and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour.
3. After 1 hour, mix the cornstarch and water together in a small bow. Add to the chili. Stir and let it cook uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes. Once done cooking add more salt and pepper, if needed.
4. Serve with your favorite topping.

Notes:

1. I like my chili quite mild but if you like your chili a bit spicier, add more chili and/or cayenne pepper.
